Happy Father’s Day to all of the incredible Dad’s out there, including my brothers, uncles and friends! Today is the 2nd Father’s Day since my Dad passed away, and I don’t think he’d be surprised at all that I am working on the thing that gives me the biggest joy outside my career and loved ones. In fact he’d pretty tell me to slow down a bit and that he’s proud of me just like I got to hear last time we talked.

Today’s post is all about Dad and the advice we’ve all received from Dad, be it about life, business or both. If you have any of your own words of advice that you either have from a dad’s perspective or that Dad gave you, please share in the comments!

  1. If you can get out of bed in the morning (meaning you aren’t so sick that it’s better to stay in bed), your butt is going to work/school. – John Tracey.
  2. If that’s what you want to do, go for it!- John Tracey.
  3. If you want hard workers on your staff, you must set the example. – Luke Knowles, co-founder of Kinoli Inc. and Coupon Sherpa.
  4. Don’t underestimate the power of a good firm handshake. – Priscilla Murtha, founder of Protocol by Priscilla.
  5. One of the most important lessons that I learned from my Dad’s experience is that you can’t let failure get the best of you. –  Chonce Maddox, blogger on mydebtepiphany.com.
  6. Listen more than you talk. – Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group.
  7. Choose the path that allows you to have the most positive impact on the lives of others. – Mike Layton, Toronto City Councillor.
  8. There is no point in being mean to anyone at any time. You never know who you’re going to meet later in life. And by the way, you don’t change anything by being mean. Usually you don’t get anywhere. –  Meg Whitman, CEO of Hewlett-Packard.
  9. Paint the of the fence. You got to make the back of the fence that nobody will see just as good-looking as the front of the fence. Even though nobody will see it, you will know, and that will show that you’re dedicated to making something perfect. – Steve Jobs, late co-founder and CEO of Apple Inc.
  10. Don’t just do it fast. Do it right. Make sure that this is going to be the absolute best that it can be because, once it’s out, there’s no taking it back. – Jesse Bongiovi, son of Jon Bon Jovi.
